Johnson Holiday Day 24

18th January (HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARALYN!!!)

Today was a big day and we were up and on the road by 8am. We were off to Canberra via Sydney. Not only was it a big day – but the weather was awful as well – we had about an hour of dry roads and then it just bucketed down all the way to Sydney. Quite bad in some spots. We made it to Robbie and Colwynn’s just before 2pm it was so nice to have break from the stressful driving. Heavy traffic and heavy rain takes it out of you. Colwynn had the makings of a lovely salad roll for us and a much needed cup of coffee. We had a short break and a bit of a discussion about the best route to take to Canberra and it was just after 3pm before we were back on the road.

Back on the road alright – the wrong road – we turned right into Forest Way instead of left and ended up god knows where and had a hell of a time working out where we were, where we were supposed to be and how we were going to get there! But we did it! We managed to find our way back and head off on the right track – and it was about 3.40pm by this stage and now we were running behind schedule drastically. So at about 4.30pm when I knew we were still nearly 3 hours away from Canberra I rang the caravan park and again they organised to leave the key for us. So we continued down the M2 to the M7 until it turned into the Hume Highway and then not long after that we turned off onto the Federal Highway and followed that into the Caravan Park in Bidges road in Sutton.

And boy what a delight it was at this caravan park – we are in a Lake Side Villa and it is just glorious. The front balcony overhangs the lake and the ducks were swimming right out front of us. We just have to keep a close eye on the kids so that they don’t go over and fall in!

The kids had had a big sleep in the car and both of them were wide awake. It was going to be a battle getting them to bed tonight! They watched a couple of movies and settled down at about 11pm. However they both slept all night which was wonderful – and in their own beds too!
