Johnson Holiday Day 19

13th January

Well we actually had a pretty good night last night – both girls went to bed without screaming matches and although Ayla found me through the night and got in with us they both slept all night. We were awake pretty early this morning and got up and had breakfast while watching the cartoons. Getting packed and back on the road seemed like an easy task today. The girls were pretty co-operative which helps.

We were on the road before 9am and today we only had 340kms to travel to Rockhampton. We knew what we wanted to do when we got here – we came across the botanical gardens by accident on the way up. So that was our plan for the afternoon.

We found the caravan park first and unpack our gear for the night and used the toilet. There was a line up for that!

Then we headed to the botanical gardens for lunch. On our way out of the caravan park we had a bit of a look about and down by the riverside there are signs that indicate that Crocodiles live on the banks of the rivers and to only set up camp in the designated camp sites. Lets just hope that we don’t come across any while we are here!

It was quite a mild day and lunch was very pleasant. After we had finished (not that the girls ate much) we went for a stroll and low and behold the girls found the playground. They are definitely playground magnets. So they had a bit of a play and look around and then when we headed back to the car we went for a bit of a drive about and a look at the rest of the gardens. Very different from the Hobart Botanical Gardens and the ones in Rockhampton have a Zoo as well.

When we got back to the caravan park we went for a swim. The water wasn’t as warm as what we have had – but it satisfied the girls and after about an hour – we headed back to get changed and venture to the supermarket to get a couple of things to make tea.

Well went headed for the supermarkets – all of which were shut at 5.30pm on a Sunday! Can you believe it? Not a single supermarket open! Even Hobart has supermarkets open til 9pm. So we ended up with take away –not what I was looking forward to at all!

The girls have gone to bed okay again tonight – both asleep by 7.30pm WOOHOO!!! While I was laying down with Ayla for her to go to sleep John heard on the news break that the Bruce Highway has been closed south of Townsville because of flash flooding. Thank god we are now two days south of there! I knew I didn’t have an instant like of Townsville for a reason!

Tomorrow we head off to Maroochydore. A little bit more up market than the caravan parks – we have a holiday unit with a roof top spa. Which will be a nice treat.
