Johnson Holiday Day 17

11th January

We were packed up and ready to go by 9.30am. Ayla got quite upset with us because we were leaving in the middle of play school on the ABC. But she soon got over that when we picked out and exciting DVD for the car. We headed down to reception and signed out, paid our bill and handed over our keys. The girls waved good bye to the pool as we drove past.

Our first destination on our return journey was Townsville. The trip down to cairns was good – nice weather as we have had for the last couple of days. However the closer to Townsville we got the worse the weather was getting. We had heard of possible road closures on the Bruce Highway at Tully because of the flooding so we were keeping our fingers crossed that we would be able to get through. As you can see from the pictures the water had been very close to going over the road. We ended up driving through a thunderstorm and a torrential downpour. I am starting to develop a bit of a dislike of Townsville – all its shown me so far is its ablility to rain.

I was going to cook tea tonight – but we desided to go and find ourselves some Chinese takeaway. We found a restaurant in on the GPS Points of Interest and went for a drive. The girls ended up with Nuggets and chips for the takeaway shop near the Chinese place. After we got tea we went for a bit of tour to find Heatley State School. None of it looked familiar to John and Vincent Village appears to be a shopping centre these days. So we headed back to the caravan park to have tea.

Tonight was our first Caravan Park stay and I must say, it left a lot to be desired. We were 26kms north of Townsville in Bluewaters. It was roof over our heads, a bed and a shower and I guess that’s all we needed. However if the girls had been a bit more cooperative in the going to bed business we might have been able to enjoy the bed component a bit more! After numerous screaming matches and threats of spending the night on the bathroom floor – they both went to sleep.
